Offend

November 12, 2010 by Cynthia Harry Leave a Comment

Jesus said:

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Matthew 5 v 29 and 30.

As usual with Jesus’ parables: in this passage Jesus is using our physical body as the vehicle to bring awareness of a spiritual matter. Obviously Jesus does not mean that we physically pluck out our eyes and cut off our hands; otherwise we will not be able to make full use of the physics he gave us and as with all of Jesus’ statements he is talking about our spirits.

In my opinion Jesus is saying we are all sinners and offenders, but we have a choice to offend. We often blame others for the situation we find ourselves in forgetting we are the cause of our own situation sometimes; hence Jesus is saying that if we are committing sin because of our very close family or friends we must cut off our relationships without hatred for them. He said we must love him with all of our hearts; if we continue to keep our families and friends close to us and we continue sinning because of our relationships, we cannot love him with all our hearts. In so doing we are missing out on our blessings from him.

For example, a depressed friend of mine is blaming hurt from others forgetting the hurt that comes from that individual to others. In my opinion depression is a spiritual bondage of guilt and sin.

Because we are all born in sin due to disobedience by our ancestor Adam, none of us is free from sin no matter how good we may think we are. We are all Guilty because we are born with knowledge. Knowledge is the mechanism by which we feel guilt when we do unrighteous acts. We know unrighteousness are lies, deceit, greed, envy , hatred, drunkenness, wrath, strife and so on. Currently people are trapping others in various ways in order to control in one way or another. In so doing our consciences are laden with burden and guilt; resulting in depression, drug addictions, and all the immorality we are experiencing. These are methods our consciences have to use in order to relieve us from our Guilt but without success.

The good news is we don’t have to live in that condition; Jesus Christ has given His life blood to free us from that guilt disease and to give us freedom in our spirits to live a full life both physically and spiritually.

Hell is where our spirits are going after we depart from our physical bodies if we don’t allow Jesus’ blood to cleanse us from our guilt or sin. Since God who is a spirit came to live among us in the flesh of Jesus Christ we have no excuse for not knowing God. Since God cannot put up with unrighteousness, he made that provision to free us from unrighteousness by his blood on the cross and we have a choice to take Him or leave Him while we are alive in the flesh. His concern is spirits don’t die and they don’t get old either, so we are permanently in torment/Hell or in peace/Heaven. He cannot do anything more for us, it is up to us now.
