Perfection

November 18, 2010 by Cynthia Harry Leave a Comment

Jesus said

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 5 v 48

People are saying we cannot be perfect but in this statement, Jesus is saying be ye perfect even as our Father is in heaven.

In my opinion Jesus is not saying anything that we cannot do, so it means we can be perfect.

If we look at the previous verses in the chapter we see, in order for us to be perfect, we must love our enemies, bless them that curse us, do good to them that hate us and pray for them which despitefully use us and persecute us, so that we may be the children of our Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.

Being human and born in sin, this is not an easy calling because it is natural for us to be selfish and seek our personal desires even as a baby.

So how are we going to be perfect in such a way as to have the above characteristics of our Father:

In John 3 V 3 Jesus said; Verily, Verily I say unto thee, except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Again in my opinion, Jesus was talking about perfection. He was saying if we remain in the current state we are, we cannot see the Kingdom of God. We have to be transformed spiritually. We have to be cleansed from our earthly thoughts and inherit His spiritual thoughts. For us to inherit his thoughts, we must acknowledge that Jesus is God’s blueprint and our Saviour, we must confess our sins and repent of them, then put in a new baby spirit in place of our original spirit.

I say baby spirit because when we are born in flesh we are babies and have parents/parent, in the same way when we are born spiritually we are babies whose parent is God or Jesus Christ. No baby except Jesus knows everything at birth and has to grow learning from our parents/parent. We develop our characteristics during our growth, in the same way we develop our characteristics of God while we grow with him spiritually.

Some will grow faster than others but the result would be the same and we would all have the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.

It would not be a pretence but a reality, our spirits would be like God Himself and whether the world like it or not we will make a difference in the world and we will see the Kingdom of God.
