Rev 13 v 1-3 & 7-8 KJV
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a lepoard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion; and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death, and his deadly wound was healed, and all the world wondered after the beast. And it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds and tongues and nations. And that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
As I understand this chapter in Revelation is saying clearly that there were two beasts. The first beast was given power by the dragon when they were thrown out of heaven on to the earth to rule the world until Jesus Christ came upon the earth.
In my opinion the system that ruled the world before Jesus Christ came upon the earth, I was not there but I am gathering from the scriptures that people were more concerned with worshipping Idols rather than money.
Somehow there were lots of Gold and silver around but wars and killings were tribal and lands invasion. When Jesus came upon the earth and died to save us the first beast got wounded; I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death. The dragon(satan) lost his dominance over us.
However, man’s memory is short lived and soon forgotten Jesus’ death that saved us; so the wound satan got was healed and satan had the opportunity to employ the second beast to do the job the first beast did with more vicious authority over the saints (God’s children).
According to my thinking that second beast is the world’s system we are living in today. The saints are under attack relentlessly all over the world; and it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them; and power was given him over all kindreds, tongues and nations. The whole world.
Can you see the difference with the first and second beasts? The first beast even if it controlled the world and had authority over the saints, money was not the reason for living.
However the second beast is more ruthless with the saints and gives false impression that money is the answer to everybody’s problems, regardless of their status, hence for me this is the mark of the beast.
Those whose names are written in the book of Life will not worship the beast, therefore money will not be their reason for living. Indeed we are in the world but not of the world.
Jesus said in John 15 v 18-19 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own, but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
